Sandro Dominelli with David Clayton Thomas

David Clayton Thomas was set to kick off the 2017/2018 season of Festival Place when his drummer was unable to play due to injury. Sandro was given the call on September 15 to perform the following day with the songwriter best know for fronting the American band Blood, Sweat & Tears. The band is best known for such favourites as "You Made Me So Very Happy", "And When I Die" and "Spinning Wheel". He is a GRAMMY award winner, Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, Songwriter's Hall of Fame inductee and in 2010 was awarded a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.

Behind every great artist is a great drummer and on September 16th that was Sandro Dominelli.  Hidden behind the kit, the cymbals and the fronting musicians there he was keeping it all together.  It's difficult to find the exact words that come before 'talent' that would describe what we experienced that night.  It is hard to believe that he was given one day to learn the songs and to perform them like he has played them all his life.

That night we were reminded of his talent and our Project Vibe students should be reminded of that as well.  There are some students who are in awe but there are others who have no idea.  His experience and expertise is the reason why he is the Project Vibe lead and is also the main reason why we named the music school 'Dominelli School of Music'.  Some of you may not know his credentials nor understand his level of talent.  Did you know that Criss Angel, the magician wanted to bring him to LA, or that Jann Arden asked him to go on tour?  Did you know he has backed many a famous musician?  Did you know he has recorded numerous CD's and has won awards?  Did you know he was Juno nominated?

As we watched him perform that night there was the realization that he gets those calls because he knows exactly what he is doing.

One of Canada`s most creative, talented and tasteful drummers. Through his continuing success as a much sought-after composer, bandleader, side man, and producer he has proven to be an established luminary in the Canadian music scene.
